Walmart will close 269 stores

Walmart had declared that it would close 269 stores, 154 of them in the US, including all of its 102 Walmart Express small-format stores.
The decision to close the stores follows a review of the retailer's portfolio initiated in October to ensure its stores were aligned with its strategy, according to the company.
The stores to be closed are less than 1% of the retailer stores worldwide, which stood at over 11,000. The closures are expected to impact 16,000 employees, including 10,000 in the US.
Walmart declared that it will open more than 300 stores around the world next year.
The retailer is the biggest in the world, with revenues of about $500 billion.
